CELL ADORE FILM FEST - Lovebirds
Emma Robson’s Lovebirds follows Gary (Jordan John), who is going to meet Helen (Mara Jacob), a woman he’s been talking to on a dating service. Once Gary arrives at her apartment, though, he is discovers that Helen wears a mask concealing her face but not her emotions. As their date continues, Gary finds it difficult to continue the date with Helen in the mask but in the end, after being asked to put a mask on by Helen, Gary decides to go along with what’s happening. The film's script, written by John, does little in terms of breaking new ground in the romcom genre. The short runtime – seven minutes – allows the film to never overstay its welcome, as the quirkinesses of it all grows tiresome as the film progresses. Lovebirds is a quirky romantic comedy. The performances are fun but only do so much for a film that never finds a stride.
