CELL ADORE FILM FESTIVAL - Re-displacement

CELL ADORE FILM FESTIVAL

The short follows Leo (Nico Mirallegro) as he begins treatment with an experimental process that allows the patient to fully visualize past memories by tampering with their short-term memory. With the help of his therapist, Dr. Michelle (Nathalie Cox), Leo begins to traverse through his past, recalling moments at the aquarium and eventually running into a woman (Mariah Louca) who claims to be his mother. Leo is led to a forest where he is forced to face his past trauma but also meets another woman (Rosie Gray) who makes Leo call into question everything he is experiencing.

Coate’s film begins with a slight exposition dump, a necessary evil of any good sci-fi. But once the story gets into full gear, the film wastes no time at exploring its biggest theme of memory and trauma. Both Leo and the viewer are left alone to figure out what the hell is happening, a confident feat carried to the very end.

Lewis Coate’s Re-Displacement is a confident and heady sci-fi short that shows a great new emerging talent in the genre.

I've been a cinephile since I popped out my mom. I was always that kid who knew about the newest movies and spent much of their time watching them. I knew I wanted to be apart of the industry when I saw grindhouse at age 12 and I haven't looked back since.
