Writer/director Anthony Hett’s When We Were Foxes is a poetic short following a fox – in this case, a man in a fox mask – as he lingers through his British town and longs to be with a female fox who has since left him for another, more accomplished fox.

The short is told in a manner almost always associated with Terrence Malick, as the story unfolds through a poem recited as images run across the screen. The experimental nature lends itself well to the poem, as the images allow for a deeper sense of emotion when contrasted with the words, as is shown in a quick shot of the fox and the female fox brushing hands.

When We Were Foxes is a quiet, allegorical visual poem. The film is a showing of the continually growing talents of its writer/director, Anthony Hett.

I've been a cinephile since I popped out my mom. I was always that kid who knew about the newest movies and spent much of their time watching them. I knew I wanted to be apart of the industry when I saw grindhouse at age 12 and I haven't looked back since.
